Dr Richard Shulman is a Geriatric Psychiatrist at Trillium Health Partners, an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and Medical Director of the Capacity Clinic. Dr Shulman has been accredited as an expert witness in contemporaneous and retrospective decision-making capacity assessments by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in numerous trials.
Community Living North Halton and Central West Specialized Developmental Services have been working together on developing a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to creating a comprehensive standard of practice for transitional care for the Intellectual Developmental Disabilities or Developmental Disabilities Sector (IDD and DD).
The project works to build capacity within the DSO sector while alleviating Long Term Care pressure and hospital stays by ensuring that all caregivers who support aging Individuals with IDD and DD, regardless of the setting, have access to resources and services.Â
They will be presenting the fundamental considerations of aging with IDD and DD and how they differ from the typical aging process. The presentation aims to help ensure a person centred approach in general practice, emphasizing the need for collaboration amongst each individual’s unique network of care.
