Dr Kristianna Martiniuk

We are so excited to highlight Dr Kristianna Martiniuk this month. Not only is she an amazing family physician in Oakville and one of the founders of the Halton Physician Association  (not to mention the many other leadership positions she has held), she is also a recent recipient of an OCFP 2021 Award of Excellence, and the E.P. "Soapy" Soanes Award from the OTMH.

Dr. Kristianna Martiniuk

What are your special interests in family medicine? I am interested in everything clinically - pretty much anything in family medicine, although I no longer do obstetrics I otherwise see everyone from about day 2 of life to palliative care which I still do.  I also enjoy teaching and currently have two McMaster family medicine residents that are in our practice.

You are involved in a lot of leadership roles. What are some of the highlights? Current leadership groups I am part of are the Co-chair for the OHT, member of the Ontario Primary Care Council, the Central Region primary care group, the Public Health Advisory Group in Halton, the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster where I teach residents and a board member at our FHO .  For many years now I have been on the medical advisory board for a group called the ILC (Improving the Lives of Children Living with Chronic Pain) which supports many children and families, particularly those suffering from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome .  Up until 2019 I was the co-chair of the Primary Care Network for Mississauga Halton.  In the more remote past I was lead and then co-lead for our FHO and transitioned our group to an EMR.

Name one person you would take with you if you were going to be stranded on a desert island and why? I better take my husband if I was going to be stranded on a desert island, partly as he is my husband, and partly as he could probably figure out how to make a great meal from what we could forage for on the island!

Which of these things could you not live without?
Coffee or tea - Coffee
Chocolate or chips - Chocolate
Books or TV -  Books

Is there anything else about yourself you would like to highlight? I love to travel with my husband and 4 kids ( who are now grown but will put up with me if we are travelling together) and kayak (this I do alone as the family won't come).
